Age-Friendly Teaneck To Continue its Community-Building Efforts in Next Two Years

Age-Friendly Teaneck is pleased to announce that we were recently awarded a renewal grant from the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation, which will fund our community-building efforts for another two years.
We also would like to share news of our future plans, which include new partnerships with AARP New Jersey,

Fairleigh Dickinson University, the Teaneck League of Women Voters as well as our continuing collaboration with Township government and other business, civic and faith-based organizations.
Some of our new plans for 2020 and beyond, include:
  • Organizing a series of four Community Table dinners in March and April, with the help of a generous grant we were awarded from AARP New Jersey and food donations from Meals with a Mission and Kosher Meals on Wheels. These festive events will provide much-needed social engagement as well as helpful information to older adults who are increasingly isolated or homebound.
  • Enhancing our Geriatric Careers Exploration Summer Internship for four Teaneck High School students by creating a more robust curriculum and working with Fairleigh Dickinson University to create a similar internship for college students.
  • Partnering with the Teaneck League of Women Voters to host a community forum this spring that will educate Teaneck residents about the Township's zoning and planning processes so residents can better understand how to exercise their voices in the many decisions that are shaping the community’s future.
  • Co-sponsoring, along with Holy Name Medical Center, Teaneck’s third annual Senior Health and Resource Fair.
  • Participating in the planned commemoration of Teaneck 125th anniversary and continuing to support the growth of the Teaneck Historical Society, which our community project helped found.
  • Working with local civic and faith-based groups to better educate Teaneck residents about the process of applying for affordable housing and supporting community organizations in developing programs to assist those who need application help.
  • Continuing our work with other age-friendly communities in Bergen County to help identify and garner support for new transportation alternatives in the region.
  • Enlisting new business sponsorships of our communications efforts so we can continue publication of our print newsletters and key materials such as the resource magnets generously underwritten by Five Star Premiere Residences of Teaneck.
Please check out our website, agefriendlyteaneck.org, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay abreast of our many efforts to make Teaneck a great place to grow old as well as to grow up.

Keep up the good work! Still think I'm 18, but realizing that it's fake news, and appreciate hearing all that you have done and are planning. The four extra seconds at the Cedar Lane and Garrison light are something for which I will always be grateful!

    Who We Are

Age-Friendly Teaneck formed in 2016 with this mission in mind: A great place to grow up should be a great place to grow old.
Our network of supporters includes some of Teaneck’s most-active government, business and civic leaders.
The project is directed by Elizabeth Davis, a licensed clinical social worker who founded Geriatric Services, Inc., a non-profit with oversight over two of Teaneck’s affordable living options for seniors -  Bright Side Manor assisted living residence and the Brookdale, a 64-unit affordable senior housing building.
Project Coordinator Jacqueline Kates is a former mayor and township council member who recently retired as community relations coordinator at Holy Name Medical Center.
A diverse group of township leaders and residents sit on our steering committee and five task forces, together working toward the common goal of better serving the needs of township residents of all ages.
