Welcome to Age-Friendly Teaneck

Our mission is to make Teaneck a great place to grow old, as well as a great place to grow up. This community-wide project was launched in 2016 and is being steered by many of Teaneck’s civic, religious, and business leaders.

The vision of Age-Friendly Teaneck is to make the community more livable for people of all ages, while also increasing awareness of the needs of the Township’s rapidly growing older population. Residents who want to remain in Teaneck as they grow older need affordable housing, reliable transportation, walkable streets, a supportive business climate and opportunities to be engaged in their community. So do people of all ages. An age-friendly Teaneck is in everyone’s interest.

Thanks to our efforts, the Township Council decided to join a growing international network of local governments supported by the AARP and the World Health Organization, which are all working together to find local solutions to the global challenges our aging population faces. Our steering committee and task forces are continuing to identify ways to enhance the community’s social, economic, and physical environment to ensure Teaneck residents remain connected, valued, and supported as they age.

This initiative is partially funded by the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation and administered by The Bright Side Family, a non-profit provider of housing and services for older adults in Teaneck.
