The Teaneck Department of Health and Human Services recently relocated its social services offices to the 2nd Floor of the Richard Rodda Center. Officials believe the widely used recreation center will be a more convenient location for residents than the previous office located inside the municipal complex.

11/20/2018 0 Comments Harvard Study Offers More Evidence that Housing is a Key Challenge for Older AdultsMore than half of US households are now headed by someone 50 or over, according to a new report released in November by the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies. The living arrangements, financial resources, health, and functional abilities of those households will present serious challenges in the years to come. The new report, which supplements the Center’s annual State of the Nation’s Housing report, cautions that baby boomers, who will soon begin turning 80, will increasingly need more accessible and supportive housing than currently available. It also warns that many households in their 50s and early 60s may not be financially prepared for retirement. Fewer of these households are homeowners or have built the wealth of their predecessors at the same age. An older resident is ailing and can no longer shower or cook a meal without help. An exhausted caregiver is reaching the breaking point, but there’s little money to pay for outside help.
In each scenario, the need for elder care assistance is getting desperate – but the task of trying to find it can feel About three dozen people - a mix of older residents, community advocates and Township decision-makers - turned out on October 9 for a "Senior Walkability Workshop."
